There is an "old" saying - a stitch in time saves nine - which may have a different meaning to some people, but to me it meant that to mend something, like a shirt button in time saved Mum - time !!! Wellington Daily Photo

This is one of the photos from this blog. For those of you who don't know, Wellington is at the bottom of the North Island of NZ. More often than not, it is refered to as "windy Wellington" !!! I know a lady (no names mention) who happened to venture out one wet & windy day, when she was visiting Wellington. As big as she was, the wind still blew her over.

# 979 We Take A Journey To 4 Rotorua Tourist Attractions

Haere Mai / Welcome, Kick off your shoes - on second thoughts, leave your shoes on, I can smell them from where I sit - relax with a cup or glass or whatever it is that takes your fancy and journey with me as we look at a few tourist attractions in Rotorua. Where else in the world, can you go on tour with a krazy maori guide, while you sit at home on your bum.
As for the "smell" of Rotorua, some say it smells like rotten eggs, while some say it smells like a kiwi's bum. Whether they were refering to the actual 2 legged kiwi bird with feathers, or to the 2 legged human kiwi bird, I didn't asked. (I have never smelt either) But the smell does get to you though, if you have never smelt rotten eggs before - I won't ask about the other part of it - don't want to know !!!.
Our journey starts at the farm gate - what did you expect, we are a rural place. From there we move on and visit a village that is buried & gone. Our third port of call is no longer - it got buried down under. Our journey will end at a place where people are said to go but don't you cheat and have a quick peek or I will kick your bum into next week. Because next week if I am still around, we will head north to get away from the smell !!!
Gas up, check the water & the oil, say a prayer -we always do that when we set off on a long journey in a car - our names goff and we're off !!!

Our first stop will be where you will see, some four legged friends who are very tasty. NZ'ers eat thousands of them and export them too, but these ones today are the choosen few who run up on stage and stare down at you !!! (Silly humans baa baa throwing around good money baa baa just to see us !!! baa baa - Human / Ha ha)
A Unique NZ Experience This is a world famous live sheep show, where 19 different breeds of sheep show people what they are made of. You will also journey on to a farm and you might even see a moo cow if you're lucky - you know the animal where milk comes off. Yeah I know it comes out of a carton, but it had to come from somewhere to get in the carton in the first place.
Anyway - anyone having a nice lamb for dinner - don't forget the mint sauce !!!
(I have been told in no uncertain terms to pass this joke on - When a friend yells out to you "Hey" (Hay) You should say back to them - "Hay makes the bull fat; the bull makes the cow fat and the cow makes the butter-fat". You don't get the joke - what are you ? Blond !!! Kick him out - we will pick him up on the way back, spoiling our good joke !!!)

Our next stop is a place where a lot of people lost friends when a big volcano blew up and its ash covered the ground.
# 979. Buried Village, Rotorua Te Wairoa, the Buried Village has been interpreting the sceneof the Mt Tarawera eruption for tourists for 75 years.

This was one place, that was really beautiful but now its buried beneath the ground.
# 979. The Pink & White Terraces !!! You won't see the real thing - well the real thing as far as touche feele goes - but you will see photos, because the Terraces were destotyed during the volcanic eruption of Mt Tawawera back many moons ago on June 10th 1886. They were known as the "eighth wonder of the world" - glistening pink & white terraces of silica created by the warmth from the centre of the earth - "Hell" ???

Hold on to your seat, because we are nearing journeys end with one stop to make.It's at the other end of the scale from "Heaven" above. Its a place though in reality from which you will return, so you will be able to tell your friends that you went to
????? ????? and were able to return.

I'm sorry to say, that's it for today - our journey is at a end but I will be back one day. Next time I'll be expecting a "tip" from you when I guide you around. Before I go though have a look at this and set the clock back to June 10th, (1886) that day many moons ago when the volcano blew and really shook the ground.

Kia Ora (Hello) Everyone, I "promised" (did I ???) you some websites, so here they are. We have lots of time - I aren't going anywhere - so given time, I'll be back to post some more. What was it - a place to eat; a place to sleep; a place to shop and a place to visit. Who said I am loosing my marbles & can't remember and I didn't cheat either.

A Place To Eat - Ora Ora Resort & A Place To Sleep !!! Landing Rd, Kerikeri. A place to really get away from the hustle & bustle of city life.

Another Place To Sleep - The Wagon Train RV Park !!! A purpose built RV Motor Home Park in private landscaped surroundings, centrally located on 1265 Stae Highway 10. They even have internet - what ever that is ??? They are a Qualmark 4 Star Holiday Park. Don't despair if you don't have an motorhome, as they also have cabins.

A Place To Shop - The Cabbage Tree Paihia, Bay Of Islands. Two great shops to purchase "gifts" - not cabbage trees, although some of their gifts are made out of Kauri wood.

A Place To Visit - Adventure Puketi RD.1, Puketi Heights, Okaihau. Get back to "mother nature" with half day or full day guided forest walks.

# 990. Treaty Of Waitangi Roadshow

This roadshow which explains all about the treaty is on a 5 month whistle-stop tour around NZ, but is not due to on show at Waitangi until mid-May. To me, that is stupid - the tour should of started on February 6th and kicked off from "Waitangi" and return to Waitangi - after all that's where the Maori Chiefs first signed the Treaty of Waitangi.

On the 6th day of February each year, NZ'ers of all ethnic backgrounds & creeds gather to commemorate the first signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, in 1840. This year up to 30,000 people are expected at the Waitangi Day celebrations, been held at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands. Clip on the small photos to enlarge them.

Kia Ora (Hello) Everyone,
Please "bare" with me (no, you don't have to take all your clothes off - hehe) as I am not too sure how this is going to work, or if it will work at all. As you will see by the blog header, I have changed the name from "photos" to "websites", as everyone knows that there are bound to be "photos" within the blogs. I will keep numbering them, so at any given time you want to return to a certain blog or website, you will know what number/s they are.

These are a couple of websites that I found - just take it slow & easy and work your way through them as there is a "lot" - "hundreds of links" - on these websites. It will be about 7 days, before I post another website. I will list blogs though as I find them, but...........I think this will do you for the meantime. Kia Ora (Hello) Everyone,
Finally !!! I hope you having been holding your breath, waiting for photos to be posted on to this blog.

What I have done is change the name of this blog to include the word "blog" in the heading so that any NZ blogs which have mainly New Zealand content with photos, etc I will list them on here rather than on 21 21 21 Blogs !!!

Because if I list NZ blogs with the other blogs, they would get lost and I don't want that to happen, given that great NZ blogs are starting to come out of the woodwork.
The first blog I found was this great blog with great "Kiwi Pics" !!!

As I list other NZ blogs, I will number them so when you return you will know what number you left off at - makes sense !!! You will also be able to tell "friends" what the numbers are of blogs you like, so they can have a look at them.

Kia Ora Everyone,
Just to bring you up-to-date or up-to-speed or whatever it is you like to call it. I'll be posting some more "photos" on here as soon as I can, as well as include a "short post" as to what the photo is about, like I have done with the "toilet" !!! So many blogs that I have had a look at, have so beautiful photos, but.... !!! Some don't mention where or when they were taken, so you are left in the dark. There's the old saying of "One photo is worth a thousand words", but I wish they would include some of those words as well as the photo.

This is the public loo that I mention in #939. I wrote.........
This cause a "shit" of emails,over the past week, because in Around NZ, I mentioned that I was going to write about a public loo. A few people got on their high horse and I don't think that they have got off yet. They said why write anything about a public loo, when there are thousands of "cleaner" things to write about. What can I say. I"m krazy but you can climb down off your high horse now and answer the call of nature, (because you surely must have a drain blockage by now) while I tell those whose feet stayed on the ground, about this public loo because it isn't just any public loo - it would have to be the most talked about & photographed public loo around New Zealand. It is in the north at Kawakawa............

Much has been written & said about Fredrick Hundertwasser, artist & architect who was born in Vienna, Austria. Here was a great architect who battled the straight lines. Among the gloriously idiosyncratic structures he designed are the Das Haus in Vienna.; the Hotel Rogner-Bad in Blumau and this public loo in Kawakawa, New Zealand. Hundertwasser knew intutively that a major part of a buildings function was to bring joy to its users and to those who passed by. Logical buildings don't attract tourists, but this public loo does. It has been said, that when you answer the call of nature, it is such that you feel like that you want to settle in with a good book. (A comment from a friend, Muggins, at the time about Barb - our avid reader and bookworm reviewer was... Maybe we could send "Bookworm" up there and hope it inspires her to live there - permanently !!!) The locals have apparently accepted the loo, as police have even found cannabis (which is illegal in NZ) growing on the roof.

The roof as you can see (in the first photo) has normal everyday grass growing on the roof. His house also had grass growing on the roof. His contribution to the "built environment" although not large, is of immense value. It asks the right questions and reacts vigorously against the norm. This of course is the significant artists prerogative, but precious few artists have managed the move into architecture, His greatest legacy is in what he managed to get built.

I found a photo of Frederick Hundertwasser, that I have, but I could not find the one I had of his house, where you can clearly see the lawn growing on the roof. (I don't know how they trim the grass, Muggins, but I certainly didn't see a goat tethered to the roof, in the photo). This loo was the last public building he designed and help build, before he died aboard the QEll cruise ship, off the coast of Australia, on February 19th 2000, age 71.

I'm back

Yahoo has moved this blog to # 2 !!! What blog will become #3 ??? They must of listed it, before I change the numbers around. I have since made this blog #7 and put "postage stamps & more" to #9. But whatever means & whatever way, you will find us through one of our 10 blogs...........soon to be 11 !!! Then 12, 13.........!!! I have also started a "small awards" blog - each month, we will search the blogs for 13 "good" blogs, contact the person and post them out a "small reward" of either 6 NZ postcards or a few NZ stamps.
